Clarity Privacy Policy

For the Android app Clarity (com.thom.clarity)

Summary: Clarity has no account, advertising SDK, developer-operated backend or automatic crash reporting. Your configured focus sessions stay in the app's private storage. Foreground app and browser address-bar observations are compared locally and immediately discarded.

Who provides Clarity

Clarity is developed and published by Thomas Nicholson. This policy explains how the current Google Play version of Clarity handles information.

What stays on your device

Clarity stores the following information in the app's private storage so its features can work:

session names, colours, selected weekdays, start times and finish times;
selected app package names and website hosts;
successfully retrieved website icons in Clarity's temporary private cache;
your penalty choice, Temporary Unblock time and notification preference; and
local Google Play purchase-recovery records, including product identifiers, the price and currency shown, request timing, purchase status and purchase tokens.

Android backup is disabled for Clarity. This local information remains until you edit or delete it, clear Clarity's app storage, or uninstall the app. Clarity has no user account and does not send this information to a developer-operated server.

Accessibility access

During an active session, Clarity reads the package name of the foreground app or text exposed by a supported browser's address bar. Clarity compares that observation on this device with the apps and website hosts in your active sessions, then immediately discards the observation.

Clarity does not build or transmit browsing history, record passwords or messages, read page content for advertising, or remotely control your device. You can decline or revoke Accessibility access in Android settings, but app and website blocking cannot operate without it.

Google Play and purchases

Clarity connects to Google Play to load the exact local prices for optional Temporary Unblock penalties, launch purchases, recover interrupted purchases and consume completed one-time products. Payment details are entered directly into Google Play and are not available to Clarity or the developer.

Clarity receives purchase results from Google Play and keeps the minimum local recovery information described above to prevent duplicate fulfilment and safely resume interrupted purchases. Purchase processing is governed by the Google Privacy Policy and applicable Google Play terms.

Network use and external links

When Clarity displays an uncached saved website, Clarity contacts that website host directly over HTTPS to retrieve its conventional favicon. A successful image is cached in Clarity's private app cache and treated as fresh for 30 days so it can be reused without another request. A stale cached image may remain visible while Clarity attempts a refresh; Android or the user may clear the cache at any time. Clarity does not send saved website hosts to Google or another third-party favicon service. Website, social-media and Google Play listing links open only when you choose them. Those external services apply their own privacy policies.

Notifications

If enabled, Clarity uses an on-device Android notification to show the active session name and finish time, or a paused state during Temporary Unblock. Notification content is generated locally and is not sent to the developer.

Crash reports and support

Nothing is sent automatically. When you choose Report an issue, Clarity opens your email app with an editable draft. You decide whether to send it and can remove any content first. The draft may include the Clarity version, Android version, device manufacturer and model, and installer. Information you choose to email is handled by your email provider and is used only to respond to your request.

Data collection and sharing

Clarity does not collect user data for the developer and does not share user data with other companies or organisations. This matches the app's current Google Play Data Safety declaration. Google Play separately processes information supplied directly to it for app distribution and payment transactions.

Your choices

Disable active-session notifications in Clarity Settings or Android settings.
Remove individual sessions and targets in Clarity.
Revoke Accessibility access in Android settings.
Erase all Clarity data by clearing its app storage or uninstalling it.

Children

Clarity is a general productivity tool and is not directed to children under 13. It does not knowingly collect personal information from children or other users.

Changes to this policy

If Clarity's data practices change, this page and the in-app policy will be updated before the changed version is released.
